Students of class IX IGCSE did an electrolysis activity using a pencil (graphite electrodes) and water. Where they passed electricity through water with a bit of salt, hydrogen bubbles formed at one electrode (-) and oxygen at the other (+).They observed the formation of H₂ and O₂ ! Hydrogen came out at the cathode, oxygen at the anode.
